About SCD

The Society for Community Development (SCD) was established in 1989 as a non-profit and non-partisan social planning organization to support the communities of Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody. Prior to 1995, SCD was called the Social Development Council of District 43. SCD is a registered charitable organization and in 1997 became a United Way Member Agency.

We work towards empowering individuals and communities through asset building. We champion programs against racism and violence, and believe in celebrating individuals who make a difference in our communities. We believe that citizens must be provided the opportunity to communicate their needs, desires and priorities for their local communities.

The SCD has been active in issues and programs involving teens, family, environment, connecting neighbours and neighbourhoods, multiculturalism, violence prevention, affordable housing, health care, child care, inclusion of people with disabilities, and anti racism.
