Elaine Rickards has lived in Coquitlam with her family for almost 20 years. She has been and continues to be actively involved in volunteering, some of which include school PACS, Coquitlam Minor Hockey, Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, Festival Planners Network and most recently Envision Financial’s Light the Lake, a fundraiser for Douglas College Foundation supporting student aid. Elaine believes it is important to give back to the Community, it gives you a sense of belonging and benefits both the volunteer and the donor. Coquitlam provides many opportunities to participate and be involved, and she encourages everyone to step out of their comfort zone and try something new, and you will be amazed at what a little positive energy can do!
Melissa Wycherley Born and raised in Coquitlam, Melissa has always taken an interest in community. Graduating from Centennial High School, Melissa went on to continue her education at Douglas College and then completed the Marketing Tourism Diploma at BCIT. She is now an owner/operator of a small business downtown Vancouver. Throughout the years Melissa was an active member of the Coquitlam City Soccer Association, was the Vice-President of the Centennial Student Council and volunteered at many events throughout the Tri-Cities. In her spare time she can be found traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Megan Hussey was born and raised in Coquitlam. She attended Centennial High School and was Vice President of the Student Council in her graduating year. She attended Trinity Western University taking business and general interest courses for two years. Following Trinity she attended BCIT and completed the Marketing Communications Diploma. She is also in the process of completing the Non Profit Management Certificate through BCIT. Currently she is working for the Burnaby School Board as well as Eastside Opportunities Society. She has always been actively involved with various youth organizations including Young Life and various Eastside programs. She loves travel and enjoys volunteering overseas during her time off.
Linda Dorey has lived in Coquitlam for 31 years and is the mother of two daughters. During that time, Linda has enjoyed a variety of volunteer experiences, including seven years as a DPAC Board Member, two years as a BCCPAC Accreditation advisor, and most recently, a member of The Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform.
For the past thirteen years Linda has worked in the Tri Cities in the areas of Community Development and Early Childhood Development and is currently employed by the Simon Fraser Society for Community Living. This will be Linda’s fourth year on the SCD Board
Deanna Jones is an innovative Organizational Development Specialist with more than 15 years experience developing and maximizing potential in leaders and organizations. She provides a broad range of consulting and facilitation services to organizations, teams, and leaders wanting to be their best. Deanna specializes in consulting on: Leadership Development and Change, Succession Planning, Coaching & Mentoring, Problem Solving, Leading Change, Teambuilding, Performance Management, and Strategic Planning. Deanna is currently a member of the Aspenwood Elementary Parent Advisory Council and the BC Organization Development Network.
Lynne Murray is currently a resident of Port Moody having lived in both Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam prior to that. She is the owner/operator of a large child care business, since 1992, with two locations (145 spaces and 12 staff) serving Port Moody and Coquitlam. Lynne has been an active volunteer in the Tri-Cities and has been a Board member of several organizations serving children, youth and families, among them Fraser North Society for Children, Youth and Families and PoCoMo Youth Services Society. She is the current President of the Port Moody Arts Centre Society, serving her 3rd year in that position. She has been a Board member of the Society for Community Development for the past six years.
Cathy Burpee and her family (husband, Sandy, and two children) moved to Coquitlam fifteen years ago after a series of company moves had transferred them from Nanaimo to Port Hardy, Terrace, Vernon and Campbell River. Small town living showed Cathy the value of community and the importance of involvement in one's community. Cathy has a degree in education form McGill University and has taught primary school and special education programs in Quebec and BC. In recent years, Cathy has led parenting programs for young parents, been involved with the Parent Advisory Councils in her children's schools, and helped to co-ordinate a community based violence prevention program. She currently is active within Beacon Unitarian Church and is a returning board member at the SCD.
